EAST POINT, Ga.--South Fulton Medical Center is pleased to announce that Allyn D. Simmons has been named director of rehabilitation services.

“I am pleased to join the Rehabcentre at South Fulton Medical Center,” says Allyn Simmons.

“The Rehabcentre provides acute physical rehabilitation services to patients who have suffered catastrophic loss of functional capacity. Our services include both physical and occupational therapy, transitional care, speech/language pathology, psychological, and social services in addition to rehabilitation medical and nursing services.”

Most recently, Simmons has been the assistant vice president of ambulatory care services for Grady Health System.

Simmons takes over responsibilities for the Rehabcentre at South Fulton Medical Center, which is designed to help patients who have had strokes, joint replacement or neurological disorders and disabilities reach maximum independence. This includes rehab in a therapy gym to increase physical endurance and strength, practice daily living skills in a training apartment, improve communication and cognitive skills in the speech lab and adjustment in the transitional care unit. The medical impatient rehabilitation program at the RehabCentre is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Simmons received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. She has also earned a master’s degree in health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, also in Charleston.
