South Fulton Medical Center will sponsor a stroke support group for stroke patients and their families starting in January. The meetings will provide an opportunity to share thoughts and feelings, as well as exchange information and ideas in a supportive environment.
The stroke support group will be coordinated by a multidisciplinary group including Ashley Craig, physical therapy; Michelle Wildman, occupational therapy; Korrie Zinkowski, registered nurse; Katie Verlander, speech therapy; along with the leadership of LaRoy Penix, M.D., neurologist and medical director of South Fulton Medical Center’s Stroke Program.
The group will meet on the second Wednesday of each month in the dining room of the Rehabilitation Centre, which is located on the second floor of South Fulton Medical Center from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. South Fulton Medical Center is located at 1170 Cleveland Avenue, East Point, Georgia.
Stroke is the nation’s third leading cause of death and the leading cause of serious long-term disability. The Rehabilitation Centre at South Fulton Medical Center has provided rehabilitation excellence since 1992. The center provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy along with patient and family education.
