VitalStim Therapy is a new option used in the treatment of swallowing disorders. It combines the physiologic benefits of neuromuscular electrical stimulation and volitional therapeutic programming.

VitalStim Therapy has been cleared by the FDA for swallowing disorders except where contraindicated.

Currently South Fulton Medical Center is one of only two full-service hospitals in Metro Atlanta that offers VitalStim Therapy.

“The RehabCentre provides acute physical rehabilitation services to patients who have suffered catastrophic loss of functional capacity. Our services include both physical and occupational therapy, transitional care, speech/language pathology, psychological and social services in addition to rehabilitation medical and nursing services,” said Hill

The RehabCentre at South Fulton Medical Center is designed to help patients who have had strokes, joint replacement or neurological disorders and disabilities reach the highest level of independence possible. This includes rehab in a therapy gym to increase physical endurance and strength, practice daily living skills in a training apartment, improve communication and cognitive skills in the speech lab and adjustment in the transitional care unit. The medical inpatient rehabilitation program at the RehabCentre is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
