East Point, Ga. – South Fulton Medical Center (SFMC) announced that eight community organizations were awarded a total of $40,000 with funds from the Tenet Foundation.  The charitable awards were given by Chris Hummer, chief executive officer, South Fulton Medical Center at a luncheon held on Monday, February 7.

South Fulton Medical Center’s commitment to the needs of our community is longstanding,” said Hummer. “These grants will allow local organizations to continue providing exemplary services for our community.  We certainly welcome the community to attend this celebratory event on February 7.”

The eight community groups receiving financial awards include:

  • Gus Thornhill Scholarship Fund,
  • Fayette Senior Services,
  • City of East Point Fire Department,
  • Odyssey Family Counseling Center,
  • South Fulton Revitalization; Christian City,
  • Mount Olive Elementary School, and
  • Youth Enhancement Services.

The recipients were selected by South Fulton Medical Center’s community advisory board, which is comprised of local community leaders from South Fulton Medical Center’s service area.

The Foundation was established in 1998 to assist eligible not-for-profit groups in the communities Tenet hospitals serve.  South Fulton Medical Center has presented more than $150,000 in financial awards since Tenet purchased the hospital in 2001.
