THE CLEVELAND AVENUE CORRIDOR IS LOOKING TO SHIFT DICRECTIONS
Town Hall Meeting Scheduled to Begin the Conversation
East Point- South Fulton Medical Center (SFMC) will host a town hall meeting for those interested in creating a community vision for Cleveland Avenue through the formation of a Community Improvement District (CID). The meeting will be Tuesday March 6th from 6:00-8:00 PM at SFMC. City of Atlanta and East Point Council Representatives will be joining local property owners as they discuss Community Improvement Districts and how this type of organization could benefit Cleveland Avenue.
The seed for creating a CID along Cleveland Avenue was planted when the Cleveland Avenue Corridor Study was completed in February 2006. This study looked at options for revitalization to promote economic growth and stability in the area. Forming a CID was one of the top choices for study implementation because it calls upon property owners to join together to take an active role in economic growth in the corridor.
Property owners in the Cleveland Avenue corridor have a chance to shape the direction of their community. CID’s are operated by an elected Board of Directors who oversee projects that increase safety, enhance town centers, and/or promote transportation projects. For example, other CIDs in the Metro Region have focused on intersection improvements, pedestrian accessibility, landscaping improvements, community clean up and hiring extra police to patrol their improvement district. The successes of the 12 Metro CIDs and their districts can be attributed to having the property owners closely involved in planning and implementing the projects their community needs the most.
Meeting Details: March 6th from 6-8 p.m. at the South Fulton Medical Center 1170 Cleveland Ave, East Point, GA 30344
