Outpatient Imaging & Specialty Care at Camp Creek

Outpatient Imaging & Specialty Care at Camp Creek offers digital radiology services including digital X-Ray, digital mammography, ultrasound, bone density, Open MRI and CT scan.

 Digital X-ray

X-rays

X-rays use electromagnetic radiation to see inside your body. The radiation passes through your body and onto a film plate. Bones and other dense structures absorb most of the radiation and appear white on the film. Tissues that are less dense appear in shades of black and gray.

Doctors use X-rays to view bones and look for problems like fractures or breaks. Today doctors can use a contrast material such as barium to help show details of the soft tissues found in the esophagus, stomach or intestines. X-rays also are used to show some problems with the heart and lungs.

Digital Mammogram

Mammography

Mammography is a special type of X-ray used for breast tissue. A mammogram is a safe, low-dose X-ray of the breast. Women who are age 40 and older are encouraged to have annual screening mammograms for breast cancer. Doctors also use mammography as a diagnostic tool when a problem is detected in the breast. Diagnostic mammograms take a little longer because more images are taken of the breast.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gives doctors a different way to view the body. An MRI scanner uses a powerful magnet instead of radiation. The energy released by the magnet causes the body’s hydrogen atoms to give off radio-frequency waves. A computer takes these waves and creates a visual image.

MRI/MRI can create an image of tissue slices from any direction. The machine creates greater contrast in soft tissues so the images are more clear and detailed than those from an X-ray or CT scan. MRI scans help detect small tumors, aneurisms and lesions in the brain and spine. Doctors also use MRI to diagnose joint, muscle and bone conditions including bone marrow disorders.

 Digital ultrasound

Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves (like sonar on ships) to obtain images from inside the body. As the sound waves move through the body, they bounce off organs and tissues to a computer that creates images. One of the more common uses of ultrasound is to view unborn babies. Other uses include evaluating the eyes, pelvic and abdominal organs, heart and blood vessels. Ultrasound images may help doctors find the source of pain, swelling or infection in many parts of the body.

Ultrasound uses real-time images that can guide procedures such as needle biopsies. Real-time images also are useful in looking at blood flow and heart valve functions.

Scheduling

All outpatient radiology procedures require a written physician’s order with the exception of a screening mammogram.  Screening mammograms do require a physician reference for registration in order for your physician to receive your mammogram report from our radiologist. If your doctor orders outpatient radiology test for you, please call us at (404) 629-4700 to schedule your procedure. We’ll provide you with information on any special preparation needed before the test. Thanks for considering us for your services.
