South Fulton Medical Center opened its new advanced emergency department in August 2004. The $8.5 million expansion nearly doubled the square footage of the previous department. The emergency department now has nearly 15,000 square-feet of space and includes a total of 27 treatment rooms.

We now have a "Fast Track" section of the emergency department that can treat patients who have minor illnesses or injuries. Fast Track allows these patients to be treated and released in a more efficient manner.

The expanded emergency department also has special treatment rooms for

• orthopedics
• ear, nose and throat
• decontamination
• infectious diseases needing isolation
