Albert Barrocas, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been appointed chief medical officer for South Fulton Medical Center.
Dr. Barrocas, who is board certified in surgery, has more than 30 years of experience in direct patient care and health care management. In his newly appointed position, he will work proactively and collaboratively to promote high quality medical care through interactions with the hospital’s medical staff, hospital administrative leadership and support staff in all clinical initiatives.
“Albert is an accomplished medical leader who has extensive experience in quality improvement strategies for hospitalized patients, conflict mediation and physician education,” said Mohammed Al-Mulki, Chief of Staff. “His detailed knowledge of health care will be an asset to South Fulton Medical Center. We are truly fortunate to have someone with his ability and expertise as part of our team."
Dr. Barrocas comes to South Fulton Medical Center from Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital in New Orleans, La., where he was vice president of medical affairs. He also was a clinical professor at Tulane University School of Medicine, Louisiana State University Medical Center and Xavier University of Louisiana. Dr. Barrocas also was in private practice in New Orleans.
He received his bachelor’s and medical degrees from Emory University in Atlanta. He completed surgical residencies at U.S.A.F. Medical Center at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., and at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals including the VA Medical Center. Dr. Barrocas is a fellow in the International College of Surgeons, the American College of Nutrition, the Southeastern Surgical Congress and the American College of Surgeons.
