As of January 1, 2011, South Fulton Medical Center will be a smoke and tobacco-free campus.
“As a healthcare facility, it is important that we are a community leader in promoting wellness. Creating a smoke and tobacco free environment for our patients, visitors, employees and medical staff, is the best way to do this,” says James Clements, CEO, South Fulton Medical Center.”
The smoke and tobacco-free policy prohibits the use of tobacco products by all employees, volunteers, students, contracted employees, vendors, EMS providers, visitors, patients, tenants, and physicians anywhere on the hospital property. This prohibition applies to smoking in personal vehicles on the property, as well as on any sidewalks or streets within the boundaries of the campus.
The decision to become a smoke-free campus will affect anyone making use of South Fulton Medical Center grounds. To help with this transition, resources are available to employees and patients including patches, nicotine gum, smoking cessation programs, and educational materials. Hospital administration has communicated with emergency services personnel, physicians, and other key targets.
