Outpatient Imaging & Specialty Care at Camp Creek has installed a new 1.2T Open MRI. The new high field Open MRI is one of the most powerful open systems in Metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia.

“Traditionally, MRI scans are done in a closed system that can create an uncomfortable and even claustrophobic feeling,” says Genia Sutton, director of Outpatient Imaging at Camp Creek. “This innovative machine allows the patient to have a 270 degree, unobstructed view, so our patients do not experience the feeling of being in an enclosed space.”

With this new technology, images are higher resolution than traditional low field Open MRI scans and has extensive orthopedic, neurological and vascular imaging capabilities, as well as breast MRI.

“We are excited to offer such a high frequency Open MRI system to our physicians and their patients,” Sutton says. “This system will allow for shorter scan times than the traditional Open MRI, while delivering the same quality images as high-field or closed MRI systems.”

The new 1.2T Open MRI can accommodate children to geriatric patients, up to 600 lbs.

“An advantage of the Open MRI at Camp Creek is the ability to scan a child with a parent in the room,” Sutton says. “Sometimes it is easier on the child to have a parent by their side. It is important to make even our smallest patients as comfortable as possible.”
